Spiritualist Healing
Healing is an important dimension of our belief. We accept the healing power of God as the ultimate healing force. While we recognize the importance and value of medical treatment and other health care services, we believe that the most effective healing benefits are derived from combined spiritual and physical inputs. The prayer for spiritual healing reflects our philosophy:
I ask the Great Unseen Healing Force
to remove all obstructions
from my mind and body
and to restore me to perfect health.
I ask this in all sincerity,
and I will do my part.
I ask this Great Unseen Healing Force
to help both present and absent ones
who are in need of help,
and to restore them to perfect health.
I put my trust
in the Love and Power of God.
Spiritual healing awakens and strengthens the inner light, which gradually takes control, bringing increased mental and emotional restoring and recharging the “dis-eased” body.
The process of spiritual healing is called “the laying on of hands.” We recognize that we act as the channels working with positive thoughts and energy. As a channel for healing, our thoughts and prayers are connecting with the highest and the best from the spirit world. This energy is directed to the person who is sitting in the healing chair. Spiritual healing firstly restores the soul, and emotional and physical healing may follow.
Healing Services at the Swampscott Church of Spiritualism
Healing is an integral part of our Sunday services. Following a brief guided meditation, members of the congregation are invited to sit in the healing chairs that are placed at the front of the church. The healers, who are standing behind the chairs, will act as channels for spirit. The person sitting can choose to accept the healing energy for themselves, or they can sit for someone who is in need of healing energy who is unable to be present.
In addition, we hold healing circles on the third Sunday of each month, which give participants the opportunity to receive healings as well as learn to give them. These services are led by our Superintendent of Healing, Barbara Farewell, a Commissioned Healer and Certified Medium.
For those who are interested in becoming a Commissioned Healer, we offer classes through our education program geared towards attaining that goal. These classes include:
- Introduction to the Philosphy of Spiritualism
- The Way of the Healer
If you’d like more information on how to become a commissioned healer, please speak to Barbara Farewell, our Pastor Rev. Fatima Heath, or Maria Halvorsen, Assistant Pastor.
